Mahwah is surrounded by almost 5,000 acres of county and state parkland. Darlington County Park holds three lakes for fishing and swimming. Campgaw Mountain Ski Center and Snowboard Area has five lifts and eight trails. Campgaw Mountain Reservation and Ramapo Valley Reservation provide over 15 miles of hiking trails as well as permit camping. The Ramapo Mountains and Ramapo and Mahwah rivers frame the township in a rustic setting.

Even in this ideal setting, Mahwah still offers the boons of a larger community. Home buyers will benefit from the public library, the municipal pool and regularly scheduled events, such as senior luncheons and blood pressure screenings. The Department of Public Works has a well-established recycling program. The community hosts Ramapo College. This 5,550 student college is five miles away from the township. Train and bus transportation provided easy access to New York City, just 30 miles away.
